These case studies feature 10 organizations, participants in the 100 Million Healthier Lives initiative, that implemented the Community of Solutions framework to shift their cultures, identify root causes of inequity, find new allies, and make progress toward improving health, well-being, and equity in their communities.
Background
The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) convened the 100 Million Healthier Lives initiative, funded in part by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, with the audacious goal of helping 100 million people worldwide live healthier lives. From its start in 2014 to its completion in 2020, the 100 Million Healthier Lives' unique approach to cross-sector collaboration creatively addressed the social determinants of health, well-being, and equity. The initiative focused on building capability and capacity by partnering with people with lived experience of inequity as leaders to co-design, co-implement, and co-evaluate change. Partners in this work accelerated progress over the initiative’s six years by testing frameworks, approaches, and skills through training, coaching, support, and resource sharing.
