The Quintuple Aim for Health Care Improvement: A New Imperative to Advance Health Equity
This article proposes expanding the original Triple Aim (improving population health, enhancing the care experience, reducing costs) beyond the "quadruple aim" (addressing clinician burnout) to a "quintuple aim" that includes advancing health equity.

Socially marginalized populations, including racial and ethnic minoritized groups, older adults, and individuals living in poverty, experienced higher rates of COVID-19 and morbidity and mortality from infection, as well as greater disruptions to their preventive and chronic care. These differences persisted long before the pandemic. There is now an opportunity to act on heightened social consciousness to address these inequities.
