A six-country collaborative quality improvement initiative to improve nutrition and decrease mother-to-child transmission of HIV in mother–infant pairs. Journal of the International Association of Providers of AIDS Care (JIAPAC). 2019 Jan. doi: 10.1177/2325958219855625.
This article describes a quality improvement (QI) intervention, the Partnership for HIV-Free Survival (PHFS), that convened leaders in six sub-Saharan African nations to discover together the best strategies for implementing and scaling up existing prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV protocols to ensure optimal health of mother–baby pairs and HIV-free infant survival. This is the first report of effectiveness of using QI in a large-scale multicountry effort to reduce postnatal MTCT in breastfeeding HIV-positive mothers.
